The Character.AI website, mobile applications, source code, design system, illustrations, marketing copy, logos and product marks are the exclusive property of Character.AI or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other applicable laws around the world.

Except where this notice or a separate written agreement explicitly allows it, you may not copy, modify, distribute, publicly perform or create derivative works from any part of the platform. Personal, non-commercial use within the bounds of our Terms of Service remains free of charge.

02User-generated content

You retain copyright in the characters, conversations, scenes and other original content you create on Character.AI. By publishing that content on the platform, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, sub-licensable licence to host, store, display and promote it as needed to operate and improve the service.

You confirm that you own — or have the rights to — every element of the content you upload, and that nothing you publish infringes anyone else's copyright, trademark, privacy or publicity rights.

03Third-party content

Some characters reference public figures, fictional universes or other third-party works for educational, parodic or transformative purposes. These references remain the intellectual property of their respective owners. Character.AI does not claim ownership over those underlying works and we cooperate fully with rights-holders who notify us of misuse on the platform.

04Trademarks

"Character.AI", "(character.ai)", the wordmark, the C-A monogram and other product names and logos used on the platform are trademarks of Character.AI. You may not use these marks in a way that is likely to confuse the public, imply sponsorship, or disparage Character.AI without our prior written consent. All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

05DMCA & infringement notices

If you believe that content on Character.AI infringes your copyright, please send a written notice to our designated agent (see Section 6). To be valid, your notice must include all of the following:

1. An electronic or physical signature of the person authorised to act for the copyright owner.
2. A clear identification of the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed.
3. A description of where the infringing material is located on Character.AI (URL or character page).
4. Your contact information, including a current address, telephone number and email.
5. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the rights-holder or authorised to act on the rights-holder's behalf.

We reserve the right to terminate the accounts of repeat infringers and to remove allegedly infringing content while a notice is being reviewed.

06Designated copyright agent

Send notices and counter-notices to our designated copyright agent at [email protected]. Please use a clear subject line such as "DMCA Notice" so we can route your message immediately. We aim to acknowledge every valid notice within two business days and to act within ten business days of receipt.
