01Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Character.AI. By creating an account, accessing the website or using any application that links to this page, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms together with our Privacy Policy.

If you are using Character.AI on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation, and "you" refers to both you personally and that organisation.

02Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the higher minimum age set by the laws of your country) to use Character.AI. Users between 13 and the age of majority must have a parent or guardian's permission and supervision. We may, at our sole discretion, refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time.

03Account registration & security

You agree to provide accurate, current and complete information during sign-up and to keep that information up to date. You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.

04License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use Character.AI for personal, non-commercial purposes. This licence does not include the right to copy, modify, distribute, sell or reverse-engineer any part of the service, nor to use it to build a competing product.

05Acceptable use

To keep Character.AI safe and welcoming for everyone, you agree not to:

• Use the service to harass, threaten, defame or impersonate any person.
• Generate or distribute content that sexualises minors, incites violence or breaks applicable law.
• Upload malware, attempt to disrupt our infrastructure or probe for vulnerabilities outside an authorised programme.
• Scrape, mirror or harvest data from the service through automated means.
• Bypass rate limits, content filters or paid features through unauthorised tools.
• Resell, sublicense or otherwise commercialise access to Character.AI without written permission.

06User content

You retain ownership of the characters, conversations and other content you create on Character.AI. By posting content, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, sub-licensable licence to host, store, reproduce and display that content as needed to operate, promote and improve the service.

You confirm that you have all necessary rights to the content you upload and that it does not infringe anyone else's intellectual-property, privacy or publicity rights. We may remove content that violates these Terms or applicable law.

07Subscriptions & payments

Premium plans (such as c.ai+) renew automatically at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel beforehand from Settings → Subscription. Prices are shown inclusive of taxes where required and may change with prior notice. Refunds follow the rules of the store you purchased through (for example, the App Store or Google Play) and the consumer-protection laws of your country.

08Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if we believe, in good faith, that you have violated these Terms, exposed the service to legal risk or harmed another user. You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination — including ownership, disclaimers, limitations of liability and dispute resolution — will continue to apply.

09Disclaimers

Character.AI is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, nor that any specific response will be accurate or appropriate. Conversations with AI characters are creative outputs, not facts.

10Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Character.AI and its officers, employees and partners are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data or goodwill arising out of your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim or USD 100.

11Governing law & dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Character.AI is incorporated, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing any formal claim, you agree to contact us at [email protected] so we can attempt a good-faith resolution. If we cannot reach agreement within 60 days, the dispute will be resolved by binding arbitration administered under generally accepted international arbitration rules, except where local consumer law preserves your right to court.

12Changes & contact

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect new features or legal requirements. Material changes will be announced in-product and on this page at least seven days before they take effect. Continued use of Character.AI after that date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. For any questions, please email [email protected].
